“Once I meditate enough, then I’ll be at peace.”
“Once I heal enough childhood wounds, I’ll be happy.”
“Once I surrender enough, then I’ll finally transcend the limits of my ego.”
“Once I finally lose that weight… “Once I finally achieve my career goals… Once I find my partner… Once I earn enough money… once I get good enough at Relatefulness… once I attend enough retreats… once I learn enough concepts…”
What do these all have in common? All of these result in avoiding the present. Looking for wholeness in all the wrong places: somewhere other than here and now. Why? The implication behind all of these projects is that now isn’t OK. This not-okness can threaten our sense of self and awaken deep feelings of shame and unlovableness, so we avoid feeling it. “I’ve got to find what I’m looking for somewhere other than here.” ← This is a completion project.
Having a name for something helps us see it. Seeing something helps us have choices…
